How it works
What exactly is Autocare by Limber?
What exactly is Autocare by Limber?
Autocare spreads the cost of keeping your car on the road across your paydays. WOF, rego, servicing, RUC and roadside assistance, paid for a little at a time, so when something's due, it's already covered. No loans, no credit, no surprise bills.
So... how does it work?
So... how does it work?
Tell us your number plate. We'll work our magic and tell you what your car needs, and when.
Then we do the maths. We count your paydays between now and when each thing is due, and split the cost evenly across them. Say something costs $52 and it's due in a year: that's $1 a week. Due in six months? $2 a week. Paid fortnightly or monthly? Same idea.
When it's due, we issue a voucher. If it needs your car at the garage, we'll give you and your mechanic a heads-up. If it's something we can sort ourselves, like your rego, RUC or roadside assistance, we'll redeem the voucher for you automatically.
How does Limber know what my car needs?
How does Limber know what my car needs?
We look up your plate on the NZ vehicle register: make, model, year, and when your WOF, rego and RUC are due. From that we work out what your car's likely to need over the next 12 months, and what that comes to each payday, whether you're paid weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
Who actually does the work on my car?
Who actually does the work on my car?
Your mechanic. When you sign up we'll suggest one near you from our network, and you can change it any time, for anything. When something's due, we send a voucher to you and your mechanic, and you book in with them like normal. Once the job's done, they request payment from the voucher, we let you know, and you approve it. A bit like tapping your eftpos card.
Can I use my own mechanic?
Can I use my own mechanic?
Yes, as long as they're part of our network. If they're not yet, send them our way. They can give us a call or get in touch through our contact page. The more the merrier.
What if my car needs more than expected?
What if my car needs more than expected?
It happens. Servicing sometimes turns up extra work. Talk to us. We can usually shuffle value across your vouchers to cover repairs, and if that's not enough we can arrange a top-up payment to get it done. Nothing gets paid without your say-so.
When you sign up, we'll encourage you to set aside a bit extra for repairs, so you're never on the back foot.
Paying for it
What does it actually cost?
What does it actually cost?
It depends on your car and what you're covering. Pop in your plate and we'll show you exactly what comes out each payday, our membership fee included. No hidden extras.
What's the catch?
What's the catch?
There isn't one. We charge a small membership fee to run your plan, and you'll see it in your quote before you sign up. That's how we make money. Everything else you pay goes towards your car.
Is this a loan?
Is this a loan?
No. No interest, no debt, no credit check. You pay for your vouchers a bit at a time before you need them, not after. Limber isn't a lender.
What's covered
What does Autocare cover?
What does Autocare cover?
Right now: WOF or COF, rego, scheduled servicing, road user charges, 24/7 roadside assistance, and repairs picked up at your WOF or service.
Coming soon: tyres, fuel, car insurance, and one-off items, which can be anything you like, from cambelts to brakes. If your mechanic recommends something, you can add it, but you never have to.
In the meantime, your service voucher works at the garage, so if some of it goes on tyres, that's fine by us.
Does Autocare cover unexpected repairs?
Does Autocare cover unexpected repairs?
Partly. Add repairs to your plan and you'll have something set aside for extra work picked up at your WOF or service. It's not breakdown cover, so if something big goes out of the blue, talk to us. We can usually shuffle value across your vouchers or arrange a top-up.
What isn't covered?
What isn't covered?
Accidents, cosmetic damage and modifications. Autocare isn't an insurance policy. Car insurance is on its way, though.
Managing your plan
Will my cost change over time?
Will my cost change over time?
It can. We recalculate your plan every day using the latest info we have, so if a provider changes their price or you drive more or less than expected, your payments adjust automatically. We'll always let you know when they change. You can also set a limit: changes under it go through automatically, and anything over it, we check with you first.
What if I miss a payment?
What if I miss a payment?
No drama. You can catch up with a one-off payment, or we'll recalculate and take a little more from each payday until it's due. As long as each item's paid off in full by the time it's due, your voucher still lands on time.
What if I sell my car?
What if I sell my car?
Your plan can go with the car to its new owner, or move across to your next car. Your call.
Am I locked in?
Am I locked in?
No. Cancel any time. There's a one-off cancellation fee, set out in your plan, and anything you've paid in that hasn't been used on a voucher comes back to you.
Cars and people
Can I cover more than one car?
Can I cover more than one car?
Yes. Add as many as you like to one plan. Each car gets its own vouchers and its own schedule, and it all comes out in one payment.
Can I put the whole family on one plan?
Can I put the whole family on one plan?
Yep. One plan for the whole whānau, so you know everyone's car is covered: yours, your partner's, the kids' first car. Everyone gets a heads-up when their car's got something due.
Do you do business fleets?
Do you do business fleets?
We do. If you run a few work vehicles, Limber keeps every WOF, rego, service and RUC on track across the fleet. Get in touch through our contact page and we'll set you up.
Road user charges
Does RUC apply to my car?
Does RUC apply to my car?
If you drive a diesel, a fully electric or a plug-in hybrid, yes. Petrol cars, standard hybrids included, currently pay their share through tax at the pump. Pop in your plate and we'll tell you whether RUC is part of your cost.
What about petrol cars?
What about petrol cars?
The government plans to move all vehicles onto RUC and scrap the tax on petrol. No date's been set yet, but when it happens, we'll have your back.
Does Autocare cover road user charges?
Does Autocare cover road user charges?
Yes. We estimate how many kilometres you'll do, spread the cost across your paydays, and buy your RUC automatically before you run out.
What if I drive more than average?
What if I drive more than average?
We've got it covered. Every now and then we'll ask for an odometer reading so we're buying your RUC at the right pace, and your plan adjusts automatically. Can't get to it? No stress. We also get your latest reading from NZTA every time your car has a WOF.
Getting started
Couldn't I just do this myself?
Couldn't I just do this myself?
You could. Most people mean to and never quite get around to it. Limber does it automatically, so it happens whether you remember or not.
What areas do you cover?
What areas do you cover?
Virtually all of New Zealand. Our mechanic network is growing fast, and if yours isn't in it yet, send them our way.
When does my first payment come out?
When does my first payment come out?

How long does it take to set up?
How long does it take to set up?
